"Under the Sea" Baby Shower Cake - NJ Bergen County Bakery
A very sweet welcome to baby Levi! We were thrilled to make this baby shower cake for a special couple. We usually create a sketch for our clients but in this case the father-to-be created the sketch and sent to us. We loved his design and enjoyed making all the sugarpaste elements, including the baby crab and boat.

Carnival Birthday Cake - NJ Custom Cake Bakery
A fun, festive cake for a little boy turning 6! We've been lucky enough to create cakes for is 3rd, 4th, and 5th birthday party. Every year his mother puts together a great party with a theme fitting for his age.
This year the theme was a big-top circus theme. We came up with this design for his cake and everything you see is edible including the sugarpaste popcorn!
or contact us via email at info@confectionarydesigns.com or phone (201)655-2302 to discuss your birthday cake needs.

Another purse cake from us at Confectionary Designs! Everything you see is edible, including the scarf, jewelry, purse handles, etc...
This cake was made for a 'fashionista' birthday party. The lovely recipient is known for her saying "it's all about the accessories!" We hope she liked gobbling up these sugar accessories.

New Jersey Wedding Cake Bakery
We created this wedding cake for a wonderful couple this summer. The only thing better than the outside of the cake is the inside! We made equal amount of servings of 1) chocolate with raspberry puree; and 2) key lime cake with key lime curd - both wonderful and refreshing flavors.
The couple asked for a special added touch to personalize the cake even more - can you see the sugar replica of the groom climbing out from the sugar peony on the bottom tier?

Christening Cake from our New Jersey Bakery
A sweet christening cake for an even sweeter baby! So enjoyed making the little baby sugar shoes for this cake.
This is another cake where we are feeling like part of a family. We made the baby shower cake for this client also. Looking forward to making his wedding cake in a few decades!

Mednhi Pattern Wedding Cake - NJ Custom Cake Bakery
Hand piping seems to be one of those skills I don't get to use very often anymore so I am thrilled when I get to break out my piping tips for a cake!
The design on this cake was inspired by a classic mehndi design. The pale green color is not typical of what you would see on most mehndi cakes, but I think it combines well for an American - Indian wedding.

Guitar Cake - NJ Cake Bakery
Anyone ever play a sugar guitar :)
We made this cake for one of our clients who presented it to her boyfriend for his 30th birthday.
The book cake contains his favorite quote from John Lennon's lyrics of "Beautiful Boy": Life is what happens to you while you're busy making other plans." So very true!!

Old Fashioned Telephone Cake
Some of the younger crowd may not recognize this as a phone but this is the way phones looked when the birthday girl was born!
This was such a fun cake to make for a really lovely lady. The biggest challenge with this cake was the support system to hold the phone handle in place. We went with a series of dowels and pipes - yes....all food safe!
I hope you enjoy viewing our most recent work.

Baby Shower Cakes from our New Jersey Custom Bakery
Baby shower cakes are such fun to design and make. There are so many great themes our customers choose for the shower. Following are a few of our recent cakes.
The sports theme is always a favorite at the bakery and can be a bit challenging! The following cake display is made up of 5 separate cakes (the football field, baseball hat, soccer ball, basketball and football). The baseball bat is made from cereal treats and the baseball is molded white chocolate.

The jungle theme is also a great project to work on. The following cake was designed after the baby's nursery design. Each animal was hand cut from sugarpaste and applied to the cake.

Sugar Flowers - NJ Wedding Cake Bakery
At our New Jersey bakery we are obsessed with following, if not exceeding, our local health codes especially when it comes to sanitation. Everything used for our cakes is either edible or food safe items (e.g. dowels to support cake tiers, etc....).
I tend to cringe when a client wants to put fresh or silk flowers on a cake. Many fresh flowers are covered in pesticides, some being quite toxic, and most silk flowers are not made with food safe materials.
We always recommend our clients opt for sugarpaste flowers. The first reason for this is we know we are providing a cake that is safe for our clients to consume. The second reason being it is aesthetically pleasing to look at a cake and know everything you see is completely edible!

ASPCA Cake - NJ Cake Bakery
Some of the cakes that come out of our bakery are a 'labor of love.' This cake, made for an ASPCA fundraiser, was one of those. The event was held at a dance studio in NYC, hence, the dancing theme!
The dogs, cats, and dancer silhouettes were created using digitized images and an electronic cutter to to cut the gumpaste.

Cake Flavors - NJ Cake Bakery
Calls and emails come into the bakery almost everyday requesting information on cakes. One of the most frequently asked questions is "what flavors do you offer?". I've thought about putting together a menu of our more popular flavors but have decided against this. Reason being, I don't want to limit the imagination of myself or my clients when it comes to flavors.
We do offer the traditional fare: chocolate cake with cannoli cream, vanilla cake with chocolate ganache, lemon cake with raspberry mousse, red velvet cake with cream cheese filling, etc... Yes, these are all quite yummy but the following is a list of flavor combinations our clients seem to enjoy:
We do offer the traditional fare: chocolate cake with cannoli cream, vanilla cake with chocolate ganache, lemon cake with raspberry mousse, red velvet cake with cream cheese filling, etc... Yes, these are all quite yummy but the following is a list of flavor combinations our clients seem to enjoy:
- Banana cake with coconut filling: Fresh pureed bananas are baked into a gently spiced cake. Toasted coconut and coconut curd are whipped together and sandwiched between the banana cake layers.
- Pistachio cake with pistachio cream filling: Sounds like a lot of pistachios, right? Actually, it the entire ensemble comes together perfectly and the touch of saltiness from the pistachios complements the sweet aspect of this cake.
- Double chocolate cake with orange cream filling: Our double chocolate cake uses over 11 ounces of high-quality dark chocolate per recipe (this is triple what most chocolate cake recipes call for)! The orange cream is made with freshly squeezed orange juice and zest.
- Almond cake with apricot filling: This combination comes from my mother's wonderful almond/apricot biscotti. The crumb of the almond cake is very fine and moist and the apricots add the perfect amount of sweetness.
- Sour cream spice cake with brown sugar meringue: The cake is flavored with a light combination of cinnamon, nutmeg, and ginger. I like to pair this with brown sugar Swiss meringue which has an wonderful rich and silky texture.
- Vanilla cake with mango mousse: To add an extra kick of mango to this cake, I like to stripe each layer with a coating of mango curd before piling on the mousse. Not only does this process taste delicious, it adds some eye-candy with the rich variations of colors (they say "we eat with our eyes").
